Too Many Things To Do!!!!

Seriously. Way too many. I have a presentation on whaling at 2:30, and I get to present at the symposium tonight (the six to seven twenty slot if you're going for extra credit or whatever. We're board.... twenty something. Probably should figure that out). Also need to cut my mash-up down to a minute by midnight. Wednesday I have a lovely meeting with the head of the psych department as well. Yay. And choreograph my solo, write my critique of a dance show, do all of my math homework, study for my lab test.... in other words, too much shit.

As I haven't given a lesson lately, I'll give one today over how to not get stung by a wasp in the library.

How to avoid being stung by a wasp in the T-Dub library:
-Don't sit by windows. If you have to sit by a window, carefully shake the blinds and then listen for buzzing. If you hear buzzing, there is most likely a wasp, move the hell away.
-Listen for wasps before you go down an aisle. Just pause and see if you can hear buzzing or the slight zapping noise when the wasp hits the light (you would think they would have figured out that's a bad idea by now). If you hear anything, chose another aisle or go for your second choice of book.
-Either remain perfectly still when you see a wasp, or run the fuck away. Just don't irritate it.
-Don't try to kill it.
-Just avoid the library in the spring in the first place.

*insert creative title here*

Wow, I suck at blogging lately. In my defense I am insanely busy, and insanely behind on research for the project we're presenting at the symposium.... and by insanely behind I mean I haven't even started researching yet. And the symposium is in April. Also I need to do math homework... as I'm also insanely behind in that, but I have actually started on that. Somehow. I'm awful with procrastinating; I can find like five billion "important" reasons why I can't work on it currently. And by important I mean bullshit.

My dorm is pissing me off because my internet won't work. I actually had to call my dad and ask him to look up the weather for me. Hopefully it'll be figured out by the time I'm done with classes, and if not I guess I'll have to send in a work order. Lame.

I should probably end this entry now because my government class is starting.

Lesson: DON'T PROCRASTINATE

Midterm Mania

Note: you should always be aware of when test dates and presentation dates are.

I forgot to update my calendar, so I was blindsided today when I looked at my math syllabus to see that I have a test on Wednesday. Once the panic from that wore off slightly, I checked my environmental biology class to see that I have a presentation next week! Like, god damn, why are things always at the same time? Normally midterms never end up being at exactly the same time, but this semester is an exception.

Let's see... this is what I have to do before spring break:
-environmental biology presentation
-lab report due for my environmental biology lab
-quantitative literacy exam
-intro ballet midterm
-elem ballet midterm
-create a mash-up and explanatory podcast
-applied statistics quizzes

or, that's all I remember at least. There could be more, but I really hope not.

It's been a while...

Sorry for being MIA for so long. If you haven't realized by now, I often have periods in which I drop off the face of the earth. I get majorly focused on one thing and it's not until I'm done with that thing that I sit back and remember there's an entire planet out there that I've been ignoring. I've been in a graduate school/graduating panic. I'm hoping *crosses fingers* for a may 2013 graduation, which means that I'm freaking the hell out. I've now checked my DARS report a million times, checking and rechecking that I'm done with my core after this semester. I've been staring at my graduation plan, mentally planning for next year, trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to finish up all of my service hours, and if I can keep my grades up so that I not only graduate with honors from AHS, but with honors in general (like cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude). And also I'm looking hardcore into grad schools, panicking over letters of recommendation, panicking over admission requirements and scheduling interviews and auditions, and freaking out over the GRE. So I'm dedicating a lot of energy to panicking.

I'm SO not ready for the real world yet. Then again, is anyone?

In which this semester kicks my ass

I'm typing this now because tomorrow I may not be able to move. My dance courses are kicking my ass! I'm taking two ballet courses in the same day. Needless to say by the end of the day I am wiped out, and I woke up on wednesday so damn sore. And today. Because I have another dance class on wednesdays. Tomorrow I might refuse to get out of bed.

Yeah, 16 hours may not have been the best idea I ever had. (Wow, this is abnormally short).

in which I am still alive

Yes, I am still alive. Somehow. I didn't mean to drop off of the face of the earth, I've just been super busy. I had a chemistry exam today AND a statistics exam. And now next week I have a counseling exam, but I'm letting my brain rest. I've been buried under a pile of textbooks, calculators, notebooks, and number two pencils. No time to breathe, which has not been good. I ended up in the ER the week before last due to repeated absence seizures. I'm okay now, I'm only having one or two a day, which I think is due to lack of sleep and stress. So, lesson, don't let yourself get super stressed and sleep at least eight hours a night.

The other day marked 3 years without purging, which is just pretty fucking epic. I'm super proud of that. That's been a really hard three years, but I made it! Shooting for four now. =)

And a super happy Mabon to you all! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you're probably not pagan. Mabon is the fall equinox. Which is today. Duh.

in which it is almost time to say goodbye to summer.

So, summer is rapidly drawing to a close, and I just really want to cling to it and refuse to start back to school. Unfortunately I've been informed that time doesn't give a damn about what you want it to do, so I must give into it (trust me I tried not to when Natalie had to return to her frozen wasteland of a state and it didn't work out so well). Classes will be starting next Monday, and I will have to remember the layout of my school sometime before then, as I have absolutely no idea where the science building is. Which... is kind of sad considering I spent a year living on campus. I mean, geez, I know where the freaking visual arts building is and I've never even had to go there. How do I not know where the freaking science building is?

Blech. I still have to start packing. Yup, going back to school soon and I haven't even packed. Well, it's mostly clothes that I have to pack... and that couldn't take long, right? Ignore the fact that it took me a day last year. Also ignore the fact that it took me two days to assemble half of that crap together. I mean... most of them are still in their boxes from when I moved out at the end of the spring, so that can't take as long... I hope. I should probably stop writing this blog entry and go back; but am I going to? If you said "no" raise your hand as you are correct ladies and gents. If you said "yes" ha, you obviously are unaware of how much of a procrastinator I am. I'll finish this entry on that note, and procrastinate some more.

Incredibly, Oddly Funny Things People Say I

And I now introduce a new segment on this blog called Incredibly, Oddly Funny Things People Say. Which is the very strange and very funny things that can be overheard on campus. And also some mentions of really weird things like people running around campus in a tomato costume.

-"I drink like 10 cups of coffee a day, and a five-hour energy drink, and a caffeine pill or two, and soda. Yeah, I'm probably going to need a kidney transplant but I have sibling so it'll be okay."
-"A slut is someone who sleeps with everyone, a dyke is someone who sleeps with everyone but you."
-"Yes, sometimes I fantasize about killing someone and turning into a bird, too."
-"You are a short five-five and I am a tall five-two"
-"Fear of dykes? No, not quite."
-(repeatedly)"No, Alice and Abby, you cannot answer questions on things we already went over in abnormal psych"

Annnnnnnnd, that's all I have for now. More funny things have been said around campus but I always forget if I don't mark them down for future amusement.

Take Back The Night

So... today was long. Woke up late, pilates once more kicked my ass via teaser one (I always end up toppling over at the end), psych of women dragged on forever and a day, studied, met with my mentor group, took a test, worked on my project, worked on my other project (got paint on my arms), and then went to Take Back The Night. Project REV was hosting it, and it was pretty much a movement to do exactly what it sounds like in the name, taking back the night. They gave us water bottles and t-shirts (that they had ulterior motives for) and we listened to a band that sucked except for the lead guitarist and seriously needed a new songwriter, and then sat for the speeches. We got the info again for student health services, the counseling center, and then the information for groups for helping women out of domestic violence situation, supporting them after sexual assault and with all the legalities involved in abuse, assault, and stalking. There were a few pretty good speeches, the first one started with the narrative of getting out of your car at night, and being pretty damned scared, and having to all but run to your front door, because we are honestly afraid of the night. People are afraid of what comes in the night. And we shouldn't have to be. That's what the march was about. We went around the Hubbard oval and marched and chanted for taking back the night, and ending violence. (like yes means yes/no means no/whatever we wear/wherever we go and stop the silence/stop the hate/no more violence/no more rape)It was pretty inspiring...

and tiring. I have no voice and everything hurts, turns out campus is big, and my roommate and I snuck away after the march. I truly feel for the people who are still down there. Long day, long day, long day.

Love,
Alice
PS: Ulterior motive for the water bottle was to be able to chant longer without getting a sore throat, ulterior motive for shirt is that it's teal and teal is the color for sexual assault awareness month, which, conveniently, is April.

in which I sit at starbucks

So I just pretty much finished up my research paper. Just have to fix up all my fancy citations and add some statistics. I feel like I can breathe now, woo!! Now just to go back to school, do all my research and present on if Don't Ask, Don't Tell is unconstitutional due to the privacy act (hehe, it tried to change unconstitutional into institutionalism. it was kind of funny) and then research on sex ed in public education and present on that too, and then four finals. Woohoo! pleasegodkillmenow

I have had a wonderful break, getting to talk to my girlfriend for hours everyday, it's been pretty awesome. It made me realize again and again and again how lucky I am to have a wonderful, beautiful person in my life. She is bound and determined to change my mind and convince me that I'm pretty, it made me bawl my eyes out last night. I love her so much.

Now I am home. And I have no excuse to not finish up my paper. I will before I go to sleep. maybe. Eventually.

in which I dance around to Taylor Swift in my socks.

I keep sliding along the floor.Lol. It's pretty fun. Just got back from seeing the dance maker's concert. It was.... something else. I think I liked it. It was certainly entertaining, at one point they were all but having sex on stage. They got down to bras and underwear only. Not entirely sure what that could be about except hating someone and having sex with them. A tad bit odd.

The sky disappointed me today, it looked like it was going to rain this morning, and then it got sunny and hot so everyone had to go change into short sleeves and after the concert it looked like it was going to pour but didn't. I wish it had rained after the concert. I was in a good enough mood to dance around in the rain. But it didn't rain, so now I'm dancing around my room (my roommate already left for the weekend, not that it would surprise her).

And I want to take this time to say that I really, really love my girlfriend. =)

Of rabid squirrels and ax-murderers

Yay... so this is my first post on here! Um... how to start? Oh, yes, with the ax-murderer. An ax-murderer, you say? On campus? Yes, my friends, an ax-murderer.

Okay, so fine I have no proof he was an ax-murderer, but I'm pretty sure he was. He had the creepy messy beard and a unibrow and he was balding a little... glaring at everyone. So, I think, maybe I will smile at him, and he will smile back because that's what normal non-ax-murderers do, right? So I smile at him, and he glares even harder. And I edge slowly to the other side of the sidewalk... and he glares more... and I stop smiling... and he glares more. No, not glares, more like scowls, like... well, an ax-murderer.

I will definitely be double locking my door tonight. And maybe barricading it shut.

Oh, oh, I forgot about the rabid squirrel the other day! At first I thought it was just spazzing out, but then it was... just extreme. Unnaturally extreme. Hopping up and down in place and flipping and tearing up everything near it, and running around in circles. I swear to you, I saw white foam. So I did not stick around very long, I walked away very quickly. Rabies isn't exactly my cup of tea. I would suggest all of you walk away quickly from a rabid squirrel. But don't run, it will chase! Maybe. I don't know if it will chase you, but I don't think running is a good idea. It's a squirrel, it will catch you, and it will bite you, and you will get rabies.

Alice
